Build a Career That Fits the Life You Want to Live.
One-on-one career coaching for filmmakers who want greater clarity and direction in their careers.
I’ve spent nearly two decades working in the film industry as a director, cinematographer, entrepreneur, and executive producer. Along the way, I’ve learned that some of the hardest parts of this career have very little to do with the craft itself.
They’re questions of uncertainty, ambition, burnout, identity, relationships, and how to build a meaningful career without losing yourself in the process.
That’s the work I help filmmakers navigate through one-on-one coaching and Nourish, the community I founded for filmmakers.
If you’re feeling stuck, navigating a transition, or simply wondering what comes next, I’d love to hear your story and explore whether working together might be helpful.
IS COACHING RIGHT FOR YOU?
There’s no single moment when someone decides to work with me. Often, something simply feels like it needs attention.
You might be:
Building a career that looks successful on the outside but no longer feels sustainable.
At a crossroads and unsure what you want the next chapter of your career to look like.
Trying to grow your career or business without allowing work to consume more of your life.
Feeling creatively stuck or disconnected from the kind of work you actually want to make.
Navigating leadership, growth, burnout, or a significant transition and wanting an experienced filmmaker in your corner.
You don’t need to have the answer before reaching out. Figuring out what you actually want, and what might need to change to get there, is often part of the work.
HOW COACHING WORKS
STEP 1: THE discovery call
The Discovery Call is a chance for us to get to know one another, talk through where you are in your career and what you’re navigating, and explore whether working together feels like the right fit.
Whether or not we decide to work together, my hope is that you leave with greater clarity about where you are and what might come next.
STEP 2: BUILD THE ENGAGEMENT
If we decide to work together, we’ll shape an engagement around what you’re navigating, what you hope to work toward, and the level of support that makes sense for you.
My coaching engagements begin with a three-month commitment and typically last between 3–12 months. I work this way because meaningful change takes time. Time to understand the bigger picture, put ideas into practice, learn from what happens, and adjust along the way.
STEP 3: WORK TOGETHER
I see my role as more than someone you meet with for an occasional coaching session. I become a partner and collaborator in your career and creative journey; someone who gets to know you, your work, your ambitions, and the life you’re trying to build around them.
We’ll meet one-on-one regularly throughout our engagement, with our conversations shaped around what matters most at the time. I’ll ask questions, offer perspective, challenge you when helpful, and help turn what we uncover into meaningful action.
There’s no rigid curriculum or predetermined path. The work evolves alongside you.
Engagements are 3–12 months and include regular one-on-one sessions over Zoom, with the structure and level of support shaped around what we’re working toward together.
THE WORK BEHIND THE WORK
Since 2017, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside filmmakers through career transitions, burnout, creative uncertainty, leadership challenges, business growth, and seasons of significant change.
My approach to coaching is less about giving you a roadmap and more about helping you slow down, ask better questions, see your situation more clearly, and make decisions that feel true to who you are and where you want to go.
Sometimes that means figuring out how to grow your career. Sometimes it means changing your relationship with work altogether. And sometimes it simply means having a thoughtful person in your corner as you navigate a season that doesn’t have an obvious answer.
Ultimately, I want the work we do together to serve something larger than your career; the person you’re becoming and the life you want to live.
A Few Stories From Filmmakers I’ve Worked With
“I think when you first approach coaching as someone who’s seeking out a coach, it can be a bit overwhelming and feel a little silly at first. But after our first consult call, hearing Jon’s tone and authenticity, I knew this would be very beneficial for me.
Having an opportunity to work with Jon, someone who has worked at the highest level, also brings in an extremely valuable view to a world that I haven’t navigated. Once that trust was created between the two of us it was freeing and allowed me to ask questions about my real or my website or projects I had in development knowing that Jon was on my team and he was able to help give advice in a way that a close friend or collaborator might not feel comfortable doing. And that’s where I started to see real progress.
Forcing yourself to create goals and work with someone that holds you accountable is a very rare opportunity and it was hands down one of the most beneficial things I’ve ever done to learn more about myself, find my inner voice and take the first steps toward who I want to be personally and professionally.”
— Greg Kubik, Director, DP & Founder, Full Tank Films
“I worked with Jon for a little over a year and it was a transformative experience. He had a real understanding of the challenges that I was facing because he had actually been there and experienced the same.
Our work together was instrumental to a restructuring of my production company and led to new relationships that have transformed the kind of work that I've done. If you are a filmmaker who is looking to make your career not only successful but also sustainable and enjoyable, Jon is the guy for you.”
— Will Dolan, Founder & Director @ Firewood Pictures
“Working with Jon as a Coach was one of the best professional decisions I’ve made. I came in ready to push beyond my comfort zone, refocus my creative direction, and ask hard questions about where I was headed, and Jon helped me do exactly that.
Our sessions felt like focused, collaborative work; clarifying my vision, building confidence in my storytelling, and setting real goals with momentum behind them. Jon brings deep experience, empathy, and a rare ability to champion your growth. I’m incredibly grateful for the impact he had on my journey.”
— Kristin Kremers, Head of Storytelling, LMNT
“Jon was instrumental in helping me gain perspective of these complexities and coaching me to focus on my strengths to be more competitive in this market. His knowledge of the process is vast and his understanding of how the game works will certainly help you gain a clearer picture of where you should direct your efforts.”
— Josh Carrasquillo, EP, Director & Partner at Taproot Pictures
“My time working with Jon was instrumental in launching my filmmaking career. As I stepped into the commercial world, his guidance gave me the confidence to take on bigger projects, building a strong foundation in both filmmaking and meaningful collaboration.”
— Lloyd Lee Choi, Director @ Division7
“I highly recommend getting coached by Jon. No matter where you are in your creative journey, Jon has been there and can give you great advice from real-world experience. One of the most challenging things in this business is that few self-help and business books were written for filmmakers. So, getting advice on everything from treatments to managing stress to battling those imposter syndrome thoughts has been invaluable.”
— Guy Bauer, Founder/Creative Director, Umault
“This spring/summer has been my most successful summer financially while also maintaining the best work/life balance I feel like I've ever had. I attribute both of those milestones directly to our conversations and your support during our time together.”
— Seth Binford, Director/DP
“I was fortunate to connect with Jon during a period where I was feeling stalled in terms of both my creativity and productivity. During our sessions together, he provided me with some powerful tools and inspiration.
Jon has great empathy and a remarkable perspective that I think would be invaluable to filmmakers at all stages of their careers. Years later I still consult him and am glad to consider him a friend!”
— Matt Robertson, Director & Co-Founder at Maker NYC
“We worked through many of the professional goals I identified at the outset, but the lasting value I’ve taken from our work was Jon’s constant push to evaluate the personal basis of each career concern. This process led me to make some crucial changes that I probably wouldn’t have otherwise, and created a lasting way of thinking that I still apply today.”
— Erik Harty, Founder and Producer @ LongDivision
ABOUT JON
I’m a filmmaker, entrepreneur, and coach who has spent nearly two decades working in the film industry.
As a director and cinematographer, I’ve created work for organizations including Nike, National Geographic, Mercedes-Benz, Coca-Cola, ESPN, and Tiffany & Co. I continue to make films today while leading Nourish, a community dedicated to helping filmmakers pursue wellness, meaningful relationships, and purpose alongside their careers.
Since 2017, I’ve also worked one-on-one with filmmakers at many different stages of their careers. My approach is informed by nearly a decade of coaching filmmakers, my own experience building and leading a production company, and formal training in lifestyle and wellness coaching through Harvard Medical School.
These parts of my work are deeply connected. My experience as a filmmaker informs how I coach, and years of conversations with filmmakers have changed the way I think about my own career.
I believe deeply in making meaningful work. I just don’t believe our work should require us to lose ourselves in the process.
