NAB 2010 Wrap Up

This past week my good friend/fellow filmmaker Khalid Mohtaseb headed out to Las Vegas to attend NAB. I had planned on updating my blog each day with daily updates but that proved to be very difficult. It was amazing how overwhelming NAB was. I had seen all types of coverage from NAB online in the past, but being there is completely different. The first day we only spent maybe 2-3 hours on the floor because our heads were about to explode from all of the new gear/technology that was being announced. We also attended RED Day which was slightly disappointing because of how packed/under lit the room was which it was held in. However we did get to see footage from the new Epic and Scarlet which I guess was pretty cool. Below are a few pictures I took of new products that were interesting to me:

At the end of the day, checking out all of the new gear was cool, but we were mainly there to meet some of the people that we have been in contact with online for the past several months. Big thanks to Eric Kessler and Chris Beller of Kessler Crane for inviting Khalid and myself to their networking dinner party. The purpose of the dinner was to gather a group of filmmakers and discuss how DSLR’s are impacting/have impacted the industry. It was great for Khalid and I being the youngest guys there because we got to share how DSLR’s are effecting the up and coming filmmakers. Our Egypt/Lebanon montage and Khalid’s Haiti montage were also big parts of the discussions about cinematic documentary filmmaking which was very flattering. We also had some really great talks with Vincent LaForet, Rodney Charters, Philip Bloom, Tom Lowe (Timescapes), Tyler Ginter, Dan Chung, along with many others. We look forward to collaborating with these guys on future projects, all very cool people.
